So lots of new laws here in Illinois take effect in 2014. Most of them wont really affect you, but here are the top 14 that will. It’s 14 laws for ’14… Get it?!?
- You must use your cell phone hands-free while driving;
- Medical marijuana will become legal (although it remains illegal in the eyes of the Federal Government);
- Minors may not use tanning beds;
- On the other hand, minors MAY vote in a primary election if they will be 18 by the general election;
- If you unknowingly adopt a sick pet, you may return it;
- Throwing your cigarette butt on the street may get you a $50 ticket;
- Your child’s school may not check his/her Facebook page without your consent;
- Rural expressway speed limits become 70 miles per hour;
- Construction zone speed violation penalties: stiffer penalties when workers are present;
- Camera tickets for passing a stopped school bus;
- Students will learn about condoms and birth control in Sex Ed.;
- If you and your ex have joint custody, you must ask your ex to watch your child before hiring a sitter;
- You may take an open wine bottle with you from a winery (the winery must cork it); and
- Your name may go on a “wall of shame” if you chronically blow through iPass without paying.
